the last days

3 days before leaving, everything is (non) ready :

the bike has been checked and prepared :

2

Christophe, working on his new car, seems to be very happy to see us leave 😉

3

Laure wanted the bike to be white instead of green with orange flames, so I resprayed all the body panels

4

Well, at home, everything is ready :

5

and finally, two days later :

1ready to go!

a special seat

For our trip, comfort is very important. Jean-Marc Briant, a well-known French seatmaker, proposed to make for us a special seat.

We went to his shop  on a Saturday morning to have it prepared.

1

Jean-Marc  works on the foam while his wife cuts the leather.

2

we have two layers of Bultex foam on our new seat, for hours of comfortable riding!

3

Then  Jean-Marc  prepares  the cover. Seeing him sewing is the most impressive part, he sews really, really quickly.

4

Once the cover set on the foam, it is done!

5

We haven’t told here every detail of the preparation of a custom seat, but it’s a real piece of art. Go to Barby and see by yourself!

Mr and Mrs Briant, thank you for the awesome moments we shared together, for this wonderful seat (and for the Chinese restaurant!)

Norway Summer 2011

After the Moroccan experience, we were longing to go back on the road… In summer 2011, we decided to head up North for a change, direction NORWAY!

We drove straight from Paris till Denmark in one day (a bit long, but efficient!), slept in Denmark and took a boat to Norway the next day, and there were, in the cold and cloudy weather anyone would dream of for summer holidays :-)

P1050799

To make things more adventurous – and also because Norway is quite an expensive country – we decided we would camp this time, so we took everything we needed for camping (tent, sleeping bags, stove…), and therefore less clothes and tools than on our previous trip.

We were a bit surprised by the cold at first, finding snow along the road in July is not so common after all!

P1050981

But very soon we felt very good in this amazing country! Each day we discovered new landscapes with the fjords, mountains, islands…

P1050874

Guillaume made new friends :-) , on the road…

P1050808

or on the many ferries we took to cross the fjords along the way…

P1050825

We improved our camping techniques day after day

P1050910

We tried to fish for dinner, but it didn’t work so well…

P1060236

So we ended up in the fish market in Bergen, yummy!!!

P1050916

We were initially aiming to reach North Cape, but it was a long way and we were running out of time… Still we made it to the Lofoten Islands & above the Polar Artcic Circle, in the Northern part of the country.

It was really beautiful up there, and made us think of ‘the Mysterious Island’ as it is quite unique.P1060179

We camped on night by the sea, all alone in a place feeling like the end of the world (and still freezing of course ^^)P1060258

Enjoying the everlasting day (as the sun never sets so up North in the summer)

P1060243

And we said goodbye to the smelly codsP1060209

and blue lagoon beachesP1060126

to slowly drive back southwards, where the sun sets! (below, view of the harbour in Trondheim)P1060035

Another great trip !! and already thinking of what will come next ;-)

Morocco summer 2009

(Guillaume) Morocco… our first travel on two wheels. When I looked at our photos to prepare this article I realised how much we were newbies in travelling… so I am a bit ashamed about some photos. Well, let’s show you!

First concern, how can we put all the stuff we (believe we) needed in only two panniers:

???????????????????????????????

dsc00227I managed to put everything on the bike, and go to Malaga, where I met Laure who took the train to avoid two highway days.

We celebrate the beginning of our holidays in a chinese restaurant, Laure was very happy ;-)

???????????????????????????????

The next day we crossed the mediterranean sea and had our first impressions on the african ground.

Along the sea the landscape is mediterranean.

???????????????????????????????Morocco is a wonderful country, full of different landscapes. During the first days in a few kilomometers it turns from mediterranean to small mountains ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

then woodsp1000258

It turns to be mountains with altitude lakes of a very nice blue p1000610p1000653

Todgha Valley

P1000812

and the desert!P1000747

Then we rode to the Atlantic ocean, rested a bit at Essaouira. Too bad you can not experience the smell…

P1000980

We rode back to the Atlas to reach the mountains and fresh air P1000922

Then visited MarrakechP1010024P1010077

On the way to the North we had the chance to be invited in a wedding.P1010895  We had a great time in Volubilis and ChefchaouenP1010232

and finally after the ferry and a stop in Barcelona we were happy to spend some days in Nimes with some friendsP1010323

A few days later… back at work with some travel projects in mind…

Old bike stories – where the idea of travelling on a bike comes from

(Guillaume)

Weeeeeeell… The idea of travelling on a motorbike is an old one for me. I have always loved bikes, and riding on them as soon as I get my licence. The first bikes I rode was a Derbi Senda SM, when I get my driving licence at 18 I rode my father’s, the first bike I bought myself was a BMW K1100LT. Not the prettiest bike, but I still love her, even if her gearbox and rear axle need to be changed.

During spring 2008 I begin to think about going to Morocco on a bike. Sebastien’s parents (Sebastien is one of my closest friends) used to live in Rabat, so we were planning to ride from Paris to Morocco then stay a while at his parents’ then ride back.

At the same time I found in the ads on internet (looking for bikes is one of my main hobbies^^) a first hand BMW R80G/S. We went to Le Havre with Laure to see her and rode her back to Paris.

What a lovely bike, isn’t it?

Finally I was unable to have enough holidays during summer 2008 for such a trip… so Laure and I went sailing a week in Britain. Buuuuuut… some months later, the idea of travelling to Morocco came back. Not with Sebastien (sorry, Seb…) but with Laure.

Laure’s mother was worried about us to travel on a 30 year old motorbike, so I took the opportunity (well, I also grabbed a bargain) to buy a BMW R1200GS Adventure.

So we got the bike for our first motorcycle trip together!
