After managing to exit India through Moreh, here we are in Myanmar, entering by the land border, what a strong emotion!!! We are really happy to have succeeded where so many travelers we met on the way told us we would fail, it was impossible…

Après avoir réussi à quitter l’Inde par Moreh, ça y est, nous sommes au Myanmar, rentrés par voie terrestre, quelle émotion!!! Nous sommes vraiment heureux d’avoir réussi là où tant de voyageurs croisés en chemin nous avaient assuré qu’on allait échouer, que c’était impossible…

We get the feeling that we are living a very special moment. The staff of the Myanmar border, who seems very happy to see us, prepared a welcome committee for us, they already filled in all the immigration forms for us. We also meet Tin, our agent / guide, who obtained for us the letter of the Myanmar president giving us permission to enter the country with our own vehicle.

On a l’impression de vivre un moment exceptionnel. Le personnel de la frontière birmane, qui semble ravi de nous voir, nous réserve un petit comité d’accueil, ils ont rempli pour nous tous les formulaires d’immigration. On retrouve également Tin, notre agent / guide qui a obtenu pour nous la lettre du président birman nous autorisant à rentrer dans le pays avec notre véhicule.

After all these emotions, as we still hardly believe what is happening to us, it’s time to leave the border and proceed to the discovery of this amazing country. The region through which we enter Myanmar is normally closed to tourists, so we are lucky to enter a territory still unknown of the travelers, where the locals are not used to see foreign visitors. This also means we have to be followed all the time by a car with a guide and a military escort…

Après toutes ces émotions, alors qu’on a encore du mal à réaliser ce qui nous arrive, il est temps de quitter la frontière et de partir à la découverte de ce merveilleux pays. La région par laquelle nous arrivons est normalement fermée aux touristes, on a donc la chance de pénétrer dans un territoire encore méconnu des voyageurs, et où les habitants n’ont pas l’habitude voir des visiteurs étrangers. Du coup, on doit être accompagnés en permanence par une voiture avec un guide et une escorte policière…

In this part of the country, roads are sometimes dirt roads. It’s the dry season, and that’s lucky otherwise we would have taken a mud bath, but we eat some dust!

Dans cette partie du pays, les routes sont parfois des pistes. C’est la saison sèche, heureusement sinon on aurait pris un bon bain de boue, mais du coup on mange un peu la poussière!

We had heard of a dangerous, under-developped country, short said, a place to avoid. There is undoubtedly a part of truth in this, but we discovered a country far away from the image delivered by the media, a country where nature is preserved, with a lot of traditional bamboo houses

On nous avait parlé d’un pays dangereux, sous-développé, en gros, à éviter. Il y a sans doute une part de vrai là-dedans, mais on a découvert un pays bien loin de l’image qu’en donnent les médias, un pays où la nature est préservée, avec beaucoup d’habitations traditionnelles en bambous

a country where people always smile, no matter if they have a hard life

un pays où les gens ont toujours le sourire, même si leur vie est loin d’être facile

a country where we eat wonderfully well at every meal, even in small restaurants on the side of the road, there are so many dishes: fish, chicken, pork, vegetables, salads, soups… And in the restaurants carefully booked by Tin every night, it’s a delight!

un pays où l’on se régale à chaque repas, même dans une petite gargote au bord de la route, c’est un festival de plats: poisson, poulet, porc, légumes, salades, soupes… Et dans les restaurants réservés avec soin par Tin tous les soirs, c’est carrément la régalade!

The hotel infrastructures are modern, and very comfortable compared with that of other regions we’ve crossed.
